camp spotlight: steppin’ OUT PERFORMING ARTS

Meet Lindsey Archer, CO-OWNER of Steppin’ Out Performing Arts

At Camp Days, we love highlighting camps that give kids the chance to explore their creativity, build confidence, and try something new. One camp doing exactly that in the Newnan community is Steppin’ Out Performing Arts, co-owned by Lindsey Archer and Cassie Jackson.

Steppin’ Out Performing Arts offers a wide variety of creative camps for children ages 3–18, making it a great option for both beginners who are just discovering the arts and more experienced performers looking to grow their skills.

I recently had the chance to speak with Lindsey about what inspired her to start these camps and what families can expect when their children attend.

Why Steppin’ Out Camps Were Created

Lindsey shared that the inspiration for their camps came from a desire to provide more creative opportunities for kids in the community.

Their studio already offers a variety of arts classes throughout the year, but camps allow children to explore new interests in a fun and low-pressure environment.

“We love to offer a variety of opportunities for students in our community,” Lindsey explained. “Our studio offers a variety of arts classes throughout the year and camps are a great way for children to try something new.”

What Campers Experience

A typical day at Steppin’ Out Performing Arts looks a little different depending on the age group and camp theme.

For younger campers (ages 3–6), days are filled with fun and imaginative activities such as learning beginner dance styles, dressing up in costumes, listening to stories, creating crafts, enjoying some free play, and making new friends.

For older campers, the experience becomes more focused on developing specific skills in dance, theater, or other arts disciplines. Campers participate in warm-ups, technique classes, rehearsals, and creative projects like building set pieces or props.

Some camps even offer full performance intensives, where students spend two weeks rehearsing theatre, music, and dance to produce a full show at the end of the program.

What Makes Steppin’ Out Camps Unique

One of the things that makes these camps special is the dedication of the staff and the thoughtful structure of the programs.

All staff members are background checked, CPR certified, and deeply committed to creating a positive and supportive environment for students.

The camps are also theme-based, meaning every week brings something new and exciting for campers.

“Students can come back each week and it will be completely different,” Lindsey shared.

What Kids Gain From Camp

By the end of the week, campers walk away with more than just new skills.

Students often leave with:

  • Greater confidence

  • New friendships

  • A love for the arts

  • New dance or performance skills

  • Creative crafts and projects

  • Lots of great memories

Lindsey says one of the most rewarding experiences is watching students transform over the course of a week.

“We’ve had brand new students come in very nervous to try anything,” she said. “By the end of the week they are confidently walking in ready to do it all.”

When those same campers return for another week or ask about joining regular classes during the school year, it’s a clear sign the program has inspired something special.

What Parents Should Know

Steppin’ Out camps are drop-off programs, and campers must be potty trained.

Parents can find helpful information on the camp’s website, including a detailed Q&A section for first-time families.

This year, the camp is also offering before and after care for some of the older elementary programs, providing additional flexibility for families.

What Families Love Most

Parents often share how much they appreciate the variety and creativity of the camps.

Families with younger children love the imaginative themes and activities, while parents of older campers appreciate the opportunity for both beginners and experienced performers to grow at their own pace.

New Camps This Summer

Lindsey is especially excited about several new camps launching this summer, including:

  • Ninja Camp

  • Circus Arts Camp

  • Sewing Camp

  • Guitar Camp

  • Choir Camp

These new programs add even more opportunities for kids to discover new talents and interests.
